witchhouse/drag meh

is it just me or does anyone else feel that witch house is well...kindov crap and gimmicky? iv spent the last year listening to it as i like to explore new genres and i seriously think most of it (not all) is boring. its not that i "dont get it" either, i just think its missing something. kindov cynical to the fact that everyone has hopped on this bandwagon so fast, that triangle/upside down cross font aesthetic gets old real fast, not to mention slowing a track down and calling it a remix...
anyone else feel the same? probably not...
some of the bands are the biggest pile of shit
salem,  THE "hipster" band of 2010.
the jury's out on that one for me. really liked some of the "fuct" compilation but tbh i find it all a bit samey. didnt really like king night apart from a few of songs. they try so hard to sound creepy and intense that i actually think they over-do it and sound kinda cheesy. when that jack guy opens his mouth i just have to turn it off. he sucks big time. but to be fair to salem, they are the pioneers of that 808/spooky synth string bassline sound that most of these bands are copying. i kinda like the "witchouse" bands that arnt copying the salem format like void/balam acab/mater suspiria vision etc.... dont talk to me about white ring tho, awful.
You kittens are doing it wrong.

Where are your cryptic symbols as you type?

Most of all, you can not have enough illuminate triangles, as if Daft Punk or Danger haven't played that one out already in recent times:

And we all need a little more Jesus/Christianity in our lives, cuz Justice wasn't enough with Cross:

I AM NOT WORTHY SATAN.

All we need are these Rape-wave acts to start doing witch house and we'll be set.

but salem are fucking amazing

No they're not. They're half-ass, just like their live performances. Even they don't care, they've said. Half of the time they're good and half of the time they're terrible... it's all due to doing things half-ass.... and crack, obviously.

Salem easily falls in perfectly for the white middle-class suburban goth/freak/outsider/wierdo/misfit/druggies/wasted-youth/hipsters-kids/runway-models-on-meth who haven't been able to fit in with everyone else on the Rap/Hip-hop bandwagon for the past 20 years or so. Basically it.

brb adding upside down crosses to seductive looking goth girl foreheads and blogging about it on tumblr or on VHS and vimeo.... but not before I bust a synth drone pads over a gangsta skill tr-808 drum beat.

I GOT SRS GANGSTA SKILL AND NEXT LEVEL BEATS.
but to be fair to salem, they are the pioneers of that 808/spooky synth string bassline sound

This stuff was already capitalized back in 1996/1997.  Eye single by SP (Billy Corgan) made it to #8 on the charts in the United States:

(808 srs gangsta skill beats and the synths gets more spookier towards the end)

Billy Corgan of SP had already used the formula, just only that he did one song and that was that (didn't become obsessed with it or pursued more with the overall sound, since it was a rather random thing)... just minus rap vocals... which i'm sure would have happened had the Shaq collab had not fallen through xD hahaha

Eye was my favorite song of SP, and one of the few I actually enjoyed of theirs, "growing up".

dont talk to me about white ring tho, awful.

I enjoy White Ring actually, the few i've listened to actually... but that's mostly because I like spastic/psychotic music...
Also, it's been said, Witch House/Drag simply falls under the Illbient sub-genre (late 90s), just that this new wave is more modern with the times:

http://techno.org/electronic-music-guide/

Downtempo > Illbient (all the way to the farright, under Abstract Hip-hop. in the "CHILL OUT" section, along with trip-hop and whatnot)

In the electronic music industry, much like every other industry, success never goes to the inventor, but to the exploiter of the invention. Illbient was coined by DJ Olive, who just happens to be a laidback, low-profile, soft-spoken kind of guy, and that does no good in a world where marketers like to take credit for everything. So big, boisterous DJ Spooky pushed him aside and claimed the genre for himself instead. The rest is infamous and pretentious history. The Turntablists like this one a lot....for when the beats just aren't slow enough, they want to bring them down to a crawl. Or a slither. Like a snail across a desert. Or like a music guide maker searching for a clumsy metaphor. Why? Because it's ILL, y0! Jesus, what a stupid word. Who comes up with slang these days, anyway? How did "sick", "bad" and "ill" become compliments? Before long, street kids will be going up to one another: "kitten, you are a fucking asshole!" "baby, thanx dood."

Could this be any more fitting? especially with terms such as drag HAHAHA
some of the bands are the biggest pile of shit
but salem are fucking amazing
this ^
I'd say that from the bands that are called "witch house", salem, white ring and oOoOO are definitely some of the best, white ring being my favorite act, by far.
but what is "witch house" really? it's not even a proper music genre, i believe.
at least, not yet.
to me it has been a way to discover dark electronic music, call it witch house or not.
like going to a market, grabbing a bag of apples, and in the bag it says "mystical red fruit", but in the end, they're apples... lol? random example sorry ;)
but yeah, there are a lot of terrible acts in it, bands that assume that by making electronic music and writing with crosses/triangles/symbols they're instantly witch house and 0kkvlt lulz

darker electronic music has existed for ages -_- not hard to find if you really look for it, especially what with the internet these days.

ANYWAY, HERE IS MY NEW WITCH HOUSE/DRAG HIT SINGLE kittens, IT'S CALLED \^/h1tΞ Suburb△n M1ddlΞ Cl△ss H1pster C0kΞ SnortΞr \^/0rld:

A VIDEO WITH WEIRD MASHED UP EFFECTS THAT CONTAINS COPYRIGHTED WORK I HAVE NO RIGHTS TO TO BE UPLOADED SOON ON VIMEO OR TUMBLR.

DON'T WORRY, A RAP VERSION WITH 808 DRUMS SOON TO COME, IN ORDER TO APPEAL TO YOUNGER HIPSTERS
Alot of witch-house sounds like some grade a bullshyt to me. I do quite enjoy Modern Witch, oOoOO, Rituals, No Virgin, and Holy Other. Salem comes and goes.
mono you seem very hateful towards this witchhouse deal... im with you tho haha its not that great. but everyone has their own taste in music and style... so whatever.
Nah, I just hate it when trends start to distort the facts/reality

You haven't seen nothing... you should see me rant about the Sex Pistols and Punk. I'd bore you to death.
White Ring > Salem

sorry
omg are you joking jack's vocals make the songs
Jack with altered pitched/slowed down, via pro-tools/logic/or whatever they use, make the songs... in "real life" he sucks hard.... both the cock and as well vocals live.

You're just more wet for him because he's "cute".

Also on a slightly related note: I was having a convo with Ethan recently in regards to Witch-House/Drag/Rape-gaze... odd how this topic suddenly creeped up on here, right after. I basically ranted about the same shiz I ranted to you kittens on here haha.

I WILL CONVERT YOU ALL.

NO ONE IS SAFE FROM THE MONONATOR

i know that haha
i just meant it's another way to do it/find it etc
